Fabric and Marine Fasteners Pop up Everywhere

Where Fabric and Marine Fasteners are used and how to fit them

Durable DOT Press Studs, Pull-the-DOT Fasteners, Lift-the-DOT Fasteners and Common Sense Turnbuttons are a part of our life, even if we don’t always notice them.

If you throw your leg over a Triumph or fire up a classic Jag, Fabric Fasteners are involved. Slip behind the wheel of a luxury modern vehicle and the quiet cabin depends on Fabric Fasteners. Maybe you have a yacht, a dingy or a cruiser? You will use Press Studs, Common Sense Turnbuttons and other Marine Fasteners to keep your vessel ship shape.

A wide range of workwear, military clothing and military kit depends on Fabric Fasteners of various types. In fact anywhere you want to fasten fabric to fabric, or leather or other materials, Fabric and Marine Fasteners can be used. And Components Direct supplies a comprehensive range of these fasteners.

Press Studs

On the road and the water

If you like the wind in your hair it’s great to drive a classic convertible or a modern cabriolet with the top down. But a fabric top is less sturdy than wood and metal so hoods and tonneau covers quite often need fixing or replacing, using Fabric Fasteners. We supply classic car restorers with fasteners to fit Rolls Royce, Bentley, Jaguar and Triumph models.

Motorbike riders wear leather jackets, trousers and gloves that incorporate Press Studs. They’re used for glove closures, trouser fastenings and on jackets. Many boats have covers and awnings that need similar maintenance. We supply fasteners ideally suited to corrosive environments.

Clothing that works with you

Workwear needs to perform and there is no more demanding work place than a battlefield.

For military kit Lift-the-DOT and Pull-the-DOT Fasteners can be specified for functions like ammo pouch closures or weapon harnesses. A Lift-the-DOT Fastener will only release if the centre of the fastening is pressed. A Pull-the-DOT fastener will only release when pulled in the correct direction, so neither can be released accidentally.

Turnbuttons

Items like jackets and overalls designed to be worn on the job are often designed using Press Studs for ease of dressing and undressing and to secure pockets or flaps. Personal Protection Equipment like helmets and goggles can be attached to the person using Fabric Fasteners.

How do you fasten a Fabric Fastener?

We supply a range of tools to attach Fabric and Marine Fasteners. For the lowest volumes of fastener installation, most of our customers use a Hand Tool Bed and Punch.

The tool holder is fixed to a bench then the bottom tool for the button or eyelet is placed in the holder. Then the parts are assembled by hand and a punch and hammer are used to fix the parts together. It’s suitable for Baby Durable DOT Snap Fasteners, Durable DOT Snap Fasteners, Lift-the-DOT and Common Sense fasteners. For guidance only, around 300-400 parts per hour can be attached using a tool like this.

A Snapmaster Tool with a top and bottom anvil and a handle is also suitable for Baby Durable DOT Snap Fasteners, Durable DOT Snap Fasteners, Lift-the-DOT and Common Sense fasteners. Because it’s portable and hand held it’s useful for working in restricted places and carrying out repairs. Again, for guidance, this toll is suitable for fixing 300-400 parts per hour.

Dot Fasteners

Step up your productivity

A Manual Foot Press will greatly increase the number of parts that can be attached per hour. The machine has a top and bottom anvil and the operator sits in front of the machine and operates it by foot, using a push-force of 10kg. This allows for two handed loading and aligning of parts. We advise that between 400-900 parts per hour can be fixed using this Attaching Tool for Press Studs and DOT Fasteners.
